My Favorites Things – Beauty Edition

Happy April! I hope your Easter and Passover weekend was a good one – if you celebrate – and that the new month has kicked off well. Today I wanted to share a quick roundup of some of my recent favorite beauty buys. It’s definitely easy to get in a beauty rut. I know that with winter dragging on, I’ve felt it. I’m pale, tired of being concealed by layers of clothing, and somehow never finding the time to do my hair. That’s why I’ve stocked up on everything from a unicorn sparkle balm to spray-in hair color. Even adding just one or two products into your beauty rotation can help you get excited about getting dolled up again. Check out the top items I’m reaching for to shake it up.

Favorite Beauty Buys

Mojo Spa Products. Let’s start with products from one of my favorite Chicago businesses. (But don’t worry, you can shop Mojo Spa online.) My friends there gifted me three products, but the opinions I’m sharing are my own. When I was given Ultimate Detox Deep Cleansing Balm, I was nervous about my sensitive skin. I’ve struggled with acne and am currently using Differin to treat it. However, the over the counter gel hasn’t been as effective as normal, and I decided the detox balm couldn’t hurt. It’s a Bamboo Charcoal Powder that “absorbs into pores to remove dirt and oil, helps heal acne, bumps, and blackheads; and promotes clear porcelain skin.” The first night after using it, a pimple I’d been fighting with on my chin faded drastically. I was so excited to wake up to that sight! This cleanser has been put into my beauty rotation.

Next, I’ll touch on Zero F*cks Stress Relief Balm, which you should consider purchasing if only for the name. I don’t use this often (again, sensitive skin), but Steve does. He loves its calming smell before bed, and I don’t mind it on him either.

Lastly I’ll share the most fun product I received, which is sadly sold out. But keep checking the site and email Mojo if you’re interested. It’s possible they’ll restock Unicorn Magic Holographic Face & Body Balm. I’m currently using the dewy and iridescent product as a highlighter, but once I’m in Vegas, you better believe I’m rubbing it everywhere to sparkle head to toe.

Hush Prism Airbrush Spray. I first saw this washout hair color on Rachel Martino. When I heard it didn’t damage her blonde hair, I decided to try it myself. I’ve been toying with the idea of dying my hair rose gold for a while, but haven’t pulled the trigger. It’s a lot of money to get it dyed, plus what if I don’t like it?! Thankfully Hush offers a solution! Sold at Sephora, the spray comes in several colors (I chose pink) and can be sprayed in and washed out on the same day, if you like. This will be so much fun during summer festival season.

21 Days of Beauty. Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty is one of my favorite times of the year. I can’t believe I haven’t made a bigger deal out of it until now! It’s probably because I stocked up on a ton of makeup for my wedding and haven’t felt the need to buy much more. But that was nearly one year ago, and I’ve been thinking about what products I should buy after news segment reminded me that most makeup needs to be replaced every few months. This is especially true for mascara, which should be replaced every three months. Well isn’t that perfect timing for Ulta’s deals on April 7? My favorite mascara – TOO FACED Better Than Sex Mascara – will be 50% off. That’s comparable to drugstore mascara! Mark this date if you too are looking to upgrade your mascara.

favorite beauty buysEsthetic Haus. If you’re in the Chicago area, I can’t recommend Courtney at Esthetic Haus enough for waxing and tinting. I was recommended to her by two of my coworkers. Now I’m hooked. I’ve long been obsessed with my brows, so I don’t trust just anyone. In fact, I often just keep up with my own brow shaping. But there comes a time I have to admit defeat, and thank goodness Courtney is there to help tame my eyebrows and tint them so I don’t have to fill them in everyday. She also talked me into an eyelash tint last year before my honeymoon. I’m glad she suggested it because it was nice to be on a beach vacation and not need mascara. Book with her today to feel the joy I do over my brows.
