Keeping It Weird

Sincerely Jennie things to do in Austin edited

I’m so excited that it’s Monday! No, I’m not always this chipper at the start of the week, but when it includes travel plans to a warmer climate I will wake up with a smile. I have a lot to be happy about because my boyfriend and I are headed to Austin, Texas, for a few days in honor of Valentine’s Day and our third anniversary.

We started the tradition of traveling during this holiday with a trip to St. Louis our first year together. That was followed by a trip to Seattle last year. This year we decided to skip the cold weather and head somewhere warm and sunny. Hence, we decided on Austin, a new city to both of us.

As soon as we started telling friends and coworkers where we were headed the suggestions for things to do in Austin started rolling in. We have a long list of recommendations about where to eat and visit in order to “keep Austin weird.” I’ll definitely share a photo recap after our trip so you can see what we chose, but I wanted to share some of our plans with you beforehand. I’d love for your suggestions, too!

I’ve created my list of things to do in Austin based off of word-of-mouth suggestions, Peggy’s recent blog post, tips from Instagram friends, as well as just plain scouring the Internet. Here are some of the things I’m dying to do while I’m in Austin:

  1. Eat at Torchy’s Tacos, and many other taco joints
  2. Swim in the Barton Springs Pool, a year-round 70-degree spring
  3. See 1.5 million Mexican Free-Tailed Bats flying out from underneath the Congress Bridge (I learned about this as a kid and have always wanted to witness it!)
  4. Hear a concert at Stubb’s BBQ
  5. Lay out at the W Austin pool (I’ve got to take advantage of the warm weather while I’m there!)
  6. Take in the views at Mount Bonnell
  7. Snap a couple’s photo at Joe’s Coffee Shop “I love you so much” graffiti
  8. Stroll through Graffiti Park at Castle Hills
  9. Check out the University of Texas campus and stop by the Blanton Museum of Art
  10. Learn about Texas history at the Bullock Museum

What am I missing?

You have to go to Rainey Street– it’s this area of town where all the houses were converted to bars. It sounds silly but they are so cool! There are huge patios to have a drink at and enjoy the warm weather! I had a blast and totally recommend it!
