Valentine’s Day Beanie

Today I wanted to share a casual Valentine’s Day outfit with you. I know it’s not what you’d think of when you’re planning a romantic night, or even a girls’ night, but I planned this outfit around my red beanie because it was a gift to me from my boyfriend last Valentine’s Day. Last year, we were in Seattle for the holiday, and since it’s the land of grunge and oh yeah, rain, my boyfriend thought it’d be appropriate to gift me a beanie to help me fit in. Now whenever I wear it I think of him, and how cool he’s helped me look with just one accessory.

The beanie also has another funny story behind it. When I first met Steve he lived in Wicker Park, which was at the time Chicago’s notoriously hipster neighborhood. I lived in Lakeview, a neighborhood full of college students and young families. On Steve’s and my first date I learned where he lived, that he was employed as a social media manager and was headed home that night to brew his own beer with his roommates. I immediately assumed he was a hipster. I learned over the years that that wasn’t the case, but Wicker Park did manage to influence him a little. Steve occasionally wears his beanie indoors, a true sign of a hipster.

Even though this beanie holds good memories for me, I won’t be packing it on our Valentine’s Day trip this year. Instead, I’m packing sunglasses, sundresses and a swimsuit. Read yesterday’s post to find out where we’re traveling to this year (somewhere sunny and warm!).
