For as many outfits of Carrie Bradshaw’s the I’ve admired, there are few that I can actually emulate in real life. What would you think if I walked around with a bandanna tied on my forehead while wearing an 80s bridesmaid dress (remember that outfit)? However by the time the Sex and the City movie rolled around Carrie’s clothes had tamed down a bit. Now, I probably couldn’t afford any of them, but that didn’t stop me from coveting them. Remember that amazing studded belt? *Swoon* One look in particular always stuck in my mind because of how Carrie paired three simple pieces to create an elegant and chic work outfit.
I’d like to think I kind of hit the mark with this appropriate for work outfit to semi-mimic what Carrie wore to the Vogue offices. Unfortunately this is the best image I could find of the outfit I’m talking about. There’s that studded belt again, cinching in the waist of what I believe was a button down, over a purple lace skirt. I didn’t even realize until after I took this photos what my outfit inspiration must have been. The outcome is pure Carrie Bradshaw…Midwest edition.
By the way, this is a real outfitgram from a friend’s baby shower. My friend Hannah Drews is having a boy, and it was so funny that most of the guests showed up to her shower in some shade of blue! After the party, I was in such good spirits and the weather was so beautiful that I decided to walk a while downtown. The shower had been off of the Magnificent Mile, and I figured I could walk a few blocks to my bus stop. Well, I sure underestimated the walk and about halfway to the stop I realized it was 10 blocks to my stop! I made myself keep going to avoid paying for an Uber. Thankfully these Naturalizer shoes truly are comfortable. I made it to the bus stop. Then, once I got off the bus, I had to trek up the hill from the stop to my apartment. Not bad in heels.
So maybe I really did have my Carrie moment, because there was no woman who walked more or further in heels than her. Rarely will you see my in something so fashionable (guilty on wearing gym shoes with my work outfits), but I guess sometimes I too can be fancy while walking the city on accident.
