TBT: Crain’s Business Model

Crains Business Model

As part of my job and because of my interests, I read quite a bit of local business news. I’m a follower of Crain’s Chicago Business and last year was really excited to see that they added a feature to their lifestyle section that was all about real professional style. Crain’s invited their Instagram followers to tag themselves with the hashtag “CCBStyle” for a chance to have their professional outfits featured online. I gave it a try and this outfit, “professionalism with a pop of color” as they called it, caught their eye.

As a “Crain’s business model” I met with a photographer and reporter for a shoot over lunch. I suggested the rooftop of The Little Goat since it was close to my work at the time, and has great views of Chicago landmarks. I take pictures with friends and the bf for my blog, but this time with the lighting and strangers I was actually nervous! It was also 80-some degrees out, so I was definitely trying not to let my nerves show through my chambray shirt. But in the end I loved getting to show off my work outfit and had fun seeing other friends later share theirs with the hashtag. Since then, several other female Chicago bloggers have been featured as well as some really stylish men.

Crain’s is still looking for business models so if you have a work outfit you’d love to share, have a colleague snap a picture and put it on Instagram with #CCBStyle.
