Sweater Weather

When I put in my notice at work, one of the last things my boss asked me during that discussion was whether I’d continue my blog in San Francisco. I kind of laughed inside, because it seemed like such an inconsequential thing when I was talking about changing jobs and moving cross-country. But yes, I was planning to continue to capture my new life through photos and writing. Of course, easier said than done.

Moving comes with a lot of to-dos, and the blog seems to be the lowest priority. Taking photos for it can sometimes be the easiest part of the process. Sure, it’s hard to wrangle Steve (my now full-time photographer for my part-time hobby) and get “camera-ready,” but once we’re outside and snap a few photos that I deem appropriate, we’re done! Now, uploading the photos to my computer and finding words to help tell their story is what takes the longest. I’ve been putting off a lot of writing until a new coworker reminded me why I do this. I got to be a part of a presentation skills workshop this week, and during one practice round we each had 45 seconds to stand up and share something. I shared that I’ve written a lifestyle blog for five years – and no one knew!

Everyone was so sweet, saying the typical “I’m going to look it up!” (“Please, every page view counts!” I said.) One girl was especially flattering. When I said, “It’s just a hobby,” she responded, “I’ve never done anything for five years.” When I look at it that way, I am pretty proud. Documenting my life in one form or another for the past five years, some months when lots of people (for me) were reading and other times when no one was. It’s definitely a passion project, and it’s one I’ve kept going.

On another note, a hard left turn, can we just appreciate this sweater? I never thought I’d be an orange slouchy sweater type of gal but here we are. And can you believe it was only $12.99?! I saw it in Ross Dress for Less (my first time stopping in the store) among a row of sweaters that just screamed fall. I’ve been trying to refrain from shopping much, but I allowed myself an inexpensive sweater that was unlike anything I already owned. Plus, I have to say I’ve gotten my use out of it, finding ways to style it for date night, weekends and work.
