A few weekends ago Steve and I traveled to Michigan for a wedding and we ended up spending a day longer there than anticipated. The wedding was fabulous but in the back of my mind I was bracing for the reality that we might be stuck because of a snowstorm. And I was right! We awoke the next day to news of storms traveling east from Chicago and we knew there was no way we could try to drive 5 hours home in that weather. After looking at our options, we decided to just stay holed up at the Dearborn Inn until Monday. Truthfully, I wasn’t too disappointed about our fate.
I mean, look at how lovely the holiday decorations were at the historic Inn! It felt like we stepped back in time and were granted a bit of unplanned relaxation. Steve and I took advantage of the complimentary hot apple cider in the lobby, the workout facilities and sprawled out on our king bed for a mid-afternoon nap. We capped off a lovely day with a quiet dinner and walk in the snow. The next morning we woke up and got on the roads, which were cleared and safe by that time.
I was secretly glad we spent a second night at the Inn and got what felt like a kickoff to the holiday season. I’d recommend the hotel if you’re looking for a place to stay if you’re ever in Detroit!
