Weekend Trip to Milwaukee

Weekend trip to Milwaukee

This past weekend I tagged along on my boyfriend’s work trip to Milwaukee. It was my first time in the city and I was excited to get out and see the art museum, the breweries and the … well, admittedly I didn’t get to see everything planned.

My boyfriend had to work for a good part of the day Saturday and aside from us going to the Milwaukee Public Market and an amazing brunch, I spent the rest of the time catching up on TV, doing my nails and working out – all in the comfort of the hotel. But, after some much-welcomed relaxation, we packed everything else into our Saturday night and Sunday. If you want to see where we traveled during our weekend trip to Milwaukee – or more pretty pictures of the blue sky – read more after the jump. We still did a lot, and whatever we didn’t hit up just gives us reason to go back.

So here’s where I have to admit I didn’t actually go into the Milwaukee Art Museum because we were tight on time. But I did make a point to at least see the iconic building from the outside. (And I was really fascinated with this sculpture.) I do wish we’d had more time, though, not just to see the galleries, but also to walk along the waterfront. Sunday was the first spring-like day and the sun could not have been any brighter.

Colectivo Coffee

Colective CoffeeEveryone from Milwaukee is allll about the Colectivo Coffee, and now I can totally see why. My bf and I liked all of the cups we were served (during both trips) and the ambiance of all of the shops is really cool. We’re glad we made it there, and that we had the caffeine to help us run through our marathon day Sunday.

Lakefront Brewery, Inc.

Lakefront Brewery

The Lakefront Brewery tour was suggested by friends, and I’d highly suggest it to anyone else. Sure it was fun to learn about barley and fermentation and all of that, but the real reason I think you should go is because you get $24 ounces of beer and a commemorative cup for just $10. That to me equals a good, tipsy, time. (Thank you to my bf for putting up with this lightweight.) Order the soft pretzels from the restaurant after the tour, too. They go great with the Lakefront Brewery IPA.

Marquette University

Steve and I drove through Marquette because I wanted to see the campus. It was pretty quiet because the students were on Spring Break, so after we pulled over to take this picture that was about that. But at least now I can tell my Marquette friends in Chicago that I visited during my weekend trip to Milwaukee.

Mars’ Cheese Castle

Weekend trip to MilwaukeeOk, and one very touristy moment: the Mars’ Cheese Castle in Kenosha. We stopped on our way back to Chicago and all I can say is this place has everything I want in my pantry that I do not need. Sausage, cheese, Crock-pot spreads and more. I managed to walk out with just one package of apple chicken-sausage.

We loved our trip and hope to go back again when it’s actually really, really warm. Leave a comment, what sites should we put on that list?

I love Wisconsin – both of my parents actually grew up in Kenosha! I spent many a childhood weekend there, but somehow missed the cheese castle. Probably for the best, I would not have had as much restraint as you did. -Amanda

Looks like the making of a great trip! I’ve never been to Milwaukee either and I’m hoping to make a trip there this summer 🙂

Jennie – love the blog post about the trip! I’m so happy you enjoyed a few of my suggestions there. Mars Cheese – a genius stop on the way home!
