Clothing-Triggered Nostalgia

If you’ve been following me for a while, first, THANK YOU! And second, do you remember when I wasn’t Sincerely, Jennie, but I was instead 1 of “2 Girls in 2 Cities?” That was the name of my first blog with my former college roommate Amanda. She always had an amazing sense of style and an endless makeup/nail polish collection, which I appreciated living in the same room as her. When college ended we went from getting ready together on weekends to texting and chatting online all day about clothes and our newfound love of blogs. After a few years of reading blogs together, we decided it was time we start one of our own! We launched 2 Girls in 2 Cities and had success for a few years of fun brand partnerships and connecting with a lot of great women online.

When Amanda’s life got too busy to continue our blog, I wasn’t ready to give up sharing my lifestyle content and interacting with everyone I’d met virtually. That’s when Sincerely, Jennie was started – more than four years ago! Today I still love blogging, especially the creative outlet it provides me, but sometimes I look back at our earliest stuff and it’s still some of my favorite content. I have to give a lot of credit to Amanda for that. The way she could pair accessories with clothes to make the perfect outfit head to toe was perfection, and she somehow managed to make glitter shoes look chic and not childish. There were so many things she wore five years ago when we did our blog that I’d still wear now. So when I recently went to her house to help her clean out her closet and came across some of these very shoes and clothes, I was a little nostalgic.

A lot has changed since we started our first blog. We’re certainly not in our mid 20s anymore. We both met men who we eventually married. I’m at a new job where I’m leading a sector of business. Amanda moved from D.C. to Chicago and now has a son. Life’s changes have changed what’s hanging in our closet – and gave us a reason to go to the very back and start cleaning out the no longer worn stuff. That top I equated to something Lauren Conrad would have worn to Le Deux – gone! The gorgeous yet amazingly high heeled beaded sandals? Haven’t been worn in over a year on account of chasing a kid around. But even if the stuff wasn’t a fit for our lifestyles anymore, there were certainly gems that someone would love. Amanda keeps her belongings in amazing condition (we marveled how even the Beanie Babies her parents recently passed down to her son were in like-new condition). Even most of her shoes looked hardly worn on the sole. So we started a pile of the clothes and shoes we were going to list in my Poshmark closet.

Below are some of my favorite photos from Amanda’s blogging days and links to the corresponding item for sale in my Poshmark closet. Going back through her photos were inspiration, and also tempting to find all of the clothes in my size and purchase them second hand! Let me know if you find any you like on the app, and feel free to make an offer. We’d love them to go to a good home. Also – if it’s you’re signing up for Poshmark for the first time, using invite code “SZINKJEL” for $5 toward a purchase.

Wow, what a ride it has been, huh? That awesome that you and your friend were able to blog together. It a lonely journey at times and having someone who understands really really helps. Those sandals are a true gem! Very pretty!
