San Francisco Sunset

When I arrived in San Francisco two weeks ago, I…well, I sat on the couch and caught up on Bravo because I’ve been without TV for a week. BUT THEN – I met my husband after work to catch the sunset at Baker Beach in San Francisco with a bottle of wine. It was warm enough that people were swimming, but also cool enough to comfortably sit under the sun and enjoy the sights: kids playing in the sand, dogs enjoying the water and other couples and groups like us just soaking it all in. As sunset fell and I watched the patterns the birds created in the sky against the Golden Gate Bridge, I thought, “Is what life on the West Coast is like?”

Of course, it won’t always be all sandy beaches and sunsets. I am, after all, in San Francisco and not Santa Monica. All of my coworkers kept commenting during my first two weeks, “Enjoy the weather while you can.” I knew the perfect temperatures and clear skies couldn’t last. I wasn’t complaining though. Zero humidity and no chance of below 0 temps? San Franciscans don’t know what they’re talking about – a girl can’t get any luckier! (Not that I don’t enjoy a good Polar Vortex now and then.)

I’ve gotten my first crisp day in San Francisco, but I didn’t hate it given that it is fall. I’m ready for the weather. Even if the days aren’t cold, the nights are chilly once the sun goes down. Of course, I keep forgetting to carry a sweatshirt to layer after my evening workout classes. (I’ve started ClassPass again and it’s helped me explore new-to-me neighborhoods by visiting different studios. Here’s $40 off your first month if you want to try it, too.) Steve’s stopped being so generous about sharing his layers, like he was my first night at Baker Beach. He reminds me to bring my own jacket or sweatshirt now that I’m a California girl.

Nights like at Baker Beach or days walking the piers (across from my new office) make me excited about being in a beautiful place with quintessential views. From experience in Chicago, I know to be careful to treat the city as if I were a tourist. Or else, you take it for granted. So if that means a second visit to Baker Beach is called for, I can deal.
