A friend’s brunch wedding is this weekend in Washington, D.C., and I couldn’t be more excited to travel there! It’s all of my college girlfriends who I do Vegas with, and we’re ready for a reunion. Since it’s a day wedding and the bride is a fan of British royalty, one of her bridesmaids told us that the dress code is inspired by royal wedding guests. I think this is because it’s cherry blossom season in D.C. and a daytime affair. Whether the bride actually cares what we wear or not, I was already down the path of researching wedding royal guests and what they wore to Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s ceremony.

I of course am doing Rent the Runway for the weekend, and spent a lot of time rounding up dresses worthy of the royal wedding. I thought I’d share my picks. I linked to the rentals and where they’re for sale online. According to my analysis of royal wedding guests, a daytime affair calls for a relatively simple dress that’s pastel, lace and/or floral. It’s modest, often a midi or tea length, but the silhouette is sexy. You’ll see above that I found a Dress the Population number in light purple that would have fit in perfectly with Priyanka Chopra and her clique. While most traditional guests will wear a dress, don’t feel “married” to the idea! I also shared a jumpsuit both inspired by Abigail Spencer and Cara Delevingne’s menswear looks.

It wouldn’t be a royal wedding themed outfit without amazing accessories. While shoes and purses are relatively minimalist and often coordinate, they should still look classy and fabulous. The hair accessories category is where a woman shines. Now, I’m not wearing a fascinator to this D.C. wedding (although I did get permission from the bride to do so). Instead, I’ll choose another unique accessory that won’t overtake my outfit but add another pop of color or texture.

I love spring weddings to see all of the guests wearing cheerful colors and patterns. My own wedding was in the spring, and not only were a few of my bridesmaids in florals, the guests also got the unexpressed memo. Do you have any weddings this season?
