Macy’s In Bloom

Macy's Flower Show in Chicago

One of the great parts about where I work (the Loop) and live (the West Loop) in Chicago is being so close to all of the quintessential Chicago spots. By the time I moved to Chicago, the flagship Marshall Field and Company Building had already been turned into a Macy’s. But pieces of the iconic department store are everywhere at the Macy’s State Street location. And, the Chicago Macy’s is one of four flagship locations, which means it still gets extra special treatment around holidays and other big events. One time that’s fun every year is the Macy’s Flower Show®. It started March 24 and there are lots of fun public events planned through April 7 for the

This year the show’s theme is Journey to Paradisios. As you can see from the photos, celestial blooms were inspired by a space floral fantasy. The store was transformed into a multi-dimensional world of space, adventure and discovery through florals and eccentrically landscaped gardens. I actually bookmarked the event when I was last in Macy’s bra shopping (which is actually the worst!), and returned to see everything for myself during a special press event. Walking into the ground level I was greeted by colorful displays and a spaceship, and in the Walnut Room I marveled over the sculptures created by Columbia College Chicago students.

The Macy’s Flower Show in Chicago has more than 5,000 types of plants. Our location is only one of three in the country! The other two are the flagship locations at Herald Square in New York City and Union Square in San Francisco. You can enjoy the flower displays for free during Macy’s regular business hours. A map to catch everything is available here.

There’s so much more to the flower show too! Check out the events calendar or in-store promos for a full schedule of free kid-geared activities like space camp and adult-friendly fun such as cooking demos and astrology class.
