This Weekend

American Express Platinum

Well, this weekend for Steve and I will be quite different than one we recently had in Chicago. We’re taking off for Athens, Ga., to celebrate Steve’s college roommate’s wedding. There won’t be any Bulls players signing autographs there (that we know of, ha). We recently had a blast attending an event at the United Center to help celebrate the launch of American Express Platinum. Chicago was one of many cities around the country where fun events were happening thanks to Amex and Uber. (The companies have teamed up to offer card holders Uber rides.) We received awesome seats to the Bulls game and attended a post-game meet & greet with legend Scottie Pippen! Not to brag, but guests also received VIP treatment throughout the night – from an exclusive entrance with a Platinum carpet and walking away with a signed Scottie Pippen jersey in their gift bags. It was truly a date night to remember, thanks to American Express Platinum!

Of course not every weekend can be filled with a Bulls Hall of Famer. This time, we’ll have to settle for visiting loved ones in the Peach State. 🙂 If you’re looking for things to do this weekend, why don’t you…

  1. Read how one woman profited off of an unexpected change in flight plans. (Thankfully everything was peaceful.)
  2. Help plan the next bachelorette party you’re going to in one of the top destination cities. Do you want wild or tame? This survey has them all.
  3. Take a look at the cutest – and inexpensive – embroidered blouse Roxanne is modeling.
  4. Reserve your ticket to the Chicago Saved by the Bell popup restaurant. There are less than 50 days left!
  5. Shop the Victoria Beckham for Target collection. Can you believe there are still options left? I picked up this ruffle hem dress.

Subculture Coffee

Sincerely Jennie Subculture Coffee West Palm Beach

Last month Steve and I were in Florida for a wedding, and as I shared earlier, it was pretty hot during the time we were there. We traveled there for a wedding over the Fourth of July and split our time off between Tampa and West Palm Beach. My parents live in Tampa so we had plenty of activities planned in that city, but aside from the wedding we didn’t have much planned West Palm Beach. I made sure to get one stop on our itinerary: Subculture Coffee West Palm Beach. I’d actually seen Jess post about it months before on Instagram and screenshotted the location so I could drink an iced coffee among the bright décor.

It was a nice relaxing stop before our four hour drive back to Tampa, and the iced beverage was necessary in the Florida heat! Definitely make a point to stop in if you’re ever in the area. Does anyone else plan their trips based off of Instagram?

Vegas Outfit Ideas

Yesterday I shared some of my favorite things to do in Vegas aside from clubbing, but let’s be honest, I do love to get dressed up and go dancing. Of course that’s not all I do while I’m in Sin City. There are so many things to do and to dress for, to make sure I can fit everything in my carry-on, I’ve started a basic packing list with outfit ideas below.Vegas brunchExpress – snakeskin romper | MyHabit – lace-up sandal | Old Navy – crossbody bag | Express – cat-eye sunglasses | Burt’s Bees – lip balm

As I mentioned Monday, a girl’s got to eat in Vegas. The most cost-effective and fun meal is brunch, so wear something simple but still cute. I also go with long sleeves or layers because the insides of those restaurants are cold!

It’s nearly impossible to go to Vegas without going to the pool. If you’re traveling to a pool party at another hotel you’re going to want the only necessities in a small cross-body bag, and a cute cover up like a skater skirt. A zip up one-piece swimsuit will ensure you’re comfortable but still sassy at the pool.

I love getting dressed for Vegas clubs because that’s when I pull out all of those sexy dresses that are typically stuck in the back of my closet. I choose bright colors to stand out from a sea of black dresses. It’s also possible to wear tall heels to dance in and still be comfortable, just make sure they have a high platform.

Vegas is also full of amazing restaurants and shows, so if possible you should plan a night to enjoy something a little more elegant. Wear those curb-to-cab heels and dress that you wouldn’t dare bring near drink-spilling party animals. A vampy lipstick will polish off the look.

Vegas – Not Just Clubs

Vegas Week continues. Cosmopolitan’s “Just the right amount of wrong” tagline has helped Vegas become known to 20-somethings for its wild nightclubs and party atmosphere. And while it does embody that, there’s plenty to do if clubbing each night isn’t for you. (Including touring Vegas hotels, like little old me did in 2011.)

More to Vegas Than Clubbing

  1. Go to brunch. If you choose a boozy brunch you might leave feeling as if you went clubbing, but you actually heard each other over drinks and your feet aren’t aching.
  2. Go shopping. Vegas has a mix of shops from high-end designers to affordable retailers. Give yourself a budget to leave Sin City with souvenirs you won’t regret.
  3. Visit other hotels. Each hotel has its own theme and its own draw. For the MGM it’s live lions, New York, New York offers a roller coaster and the Bellagio boasts a conservatory and botanical garden. It’s worth it to take several hours and hotel hop.
  4. Go to a male review. Are you a fan of Magic Mike? Vegas has the real thing. I suggest Thunder From Down Under.
  5. Go to Old Vegas. That’s where you can get your photo with the famous “Vegas” sign, zip line and see great street performers.
  6. See the Fountains of Bellagio. This enormous water show is set to beautiful music and is simply romantic.
  7. Go to a Cirque Show. There are so many musical options in Vegas, and you can get discounted tickets at many locations. Just ask your concierge.
  8. Sing along with Britney. If you’re a 2o something in Vegas, you gotta go see Britney Spears. Bonus points if you dress like your favorite Britney to see this nostalgic, over the top show.
  9. Go to a pool party.  Ok, so it’s kind of a club, but outside during the day. And you get to cool off in a pool.
  10. Visit the Rent the Runway store. Rent the Runway only has a few brick-and-mortar stores in the U.S., and Vegas is home to one of them. Stop in if you want one extra dress option for the weekend.
  11. Eat at Serendipity. Skip the empty calories from booze and instead indulge in one of Serendipity 3‘s frozen treats. Totally worth it.
  12. Pamper yourself. With all the late nights, why don’t you take some time during the day for yourself.  My friends have found less expensive salon options off of The Strip, or splurge on a hotel spa.
  13. Gamble. I mean, duh, right?
  14. Have a room dance party. One of my most fun memories was when my girlfriends and I cranked the music in our suite and danced on top of the counters. You don’t have to go to a club to party!
  15. Sight-see The Strip with an open container. Because it’s illegal anywhere else.
  16. Drink at an ice bar. Visit Minus 5° Ice Bar to have a drink unlike any other. You don’t have to worry what to wear underneath those oversized coats, and it makes for great photos.
  17. Read by the pool. It might sound totally lame, but relaxing during the day helps me reset for the night.
  18. Go to a museum. These are your mom’s museums.
  19. Get out of town. With the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon both nearby, it’s been on my list to one year take an extra day trip out to see one.
  20. Do a crazy workout. Instead of paying to access your hotel fitness studio, do something out of the ordinary with one of the many unique fitness classes offered in the city.

Cool Skirt

Rent the Runway White Skirt

I recently wore this skirt to Columbus, where it proved to be the perfect thing for hot and sticky weather. {Not even a Seventh Sons beer could cool me off.} I dressed it down with a pretty casual top since we were sightseeing, but I definitely could see this Waverly Grey skirt looking ethereal if paired with a white cotton blouse, or perfect for a night out with a black top and statement necklace. The was rented though (read more about that here), so I’ll just have to wait until the next order to get it back!

Beanie Season

Womans Beanie

My boyfriend and I took an extended trip this past weekend to Seattle to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and what better thing to wear for both of those occasions than a red beanie. At least, that was my boyfriend’s reasoning. He loves a girl in a beanie so I told him I’d humor him and wear his Valentine’s Day gift – of a beanie – around the city. It turns out I actually like it, and have rocked the cap since we’ve been in Chicago, too. It actually comes in handy when the weather is just 10 degrees, but please, say something if it’s spring and you still see me wearing the hat. I’m not quite ready to go that hipster.

Check back tomorrow for pics of our Seattle getaway.
