My Blue Valentine

velvet varsity jacketvelvet varsity jacket | frayed skinny cropped jean | crossbody bag | similar bow hair tie

Do you ever have one of those weekends that’s nothing extraordinary happens, but it’s still just the best weekend? I had one recently and it left me so happy. It included tapas on Friday with college friends, brunch with Sarah and her husband, clothes shopping with the husband (which I can’t always convince him to do), an unexpected trip to a brewery, alone time Saturday night, and the Super Bowl. I guess the key component there was quality time with the hubby and great conversation over good food (and drinks). I feel like so many times Steve and I feel like we need to be doing something special or unique to make it a weekend to remember, but as I get older and even busier I find it’s low key weekends doing the things I actually enjoy that really stand out. Obviously, because I’m still talking about it two weeks later. Ha. Speaking of standing out, what do you think of this royal blue velvet varsity jacket?

Ushering In a New Era

Taylor Swift Outfit Ideas

So the big, exciting news this week is that I got tickets to the Taylor Swift show in Chicago!!! Well, actually, I got tickets through a friend’s friend, but still it means I’ll be at Soldier Field for the Reputation Tour! I am going with five other people – four of whom I don’t know – but still think it’d be fun to dress up as Taylor’s eras for the concert. I’ve only mentioned it to my friend so far, and he told me I will have to be the Red era because I can pull off her signature red lip. I will happily accept that challenge.

I am having so much fun thinking about the concert and the possibility of dressing up as my favorite Taylor that I started researching the other eras and Taylor Swift outfit ideas. I looked at SheIn because of their inexpensive clothes and breadth of styles and trends. (You can read more about my SheIn experience here.) Keep reading for my top picks of adorable, inexpensive clothes for each Taylor era! (P.S. This post goes best with a soundtrack, I currently have “Speak Now” on.) (more…)

Talking About What’s “Real”

SheIn tweed blazer

SheIn tweed blazer | Express silky v-neck blouse | Express “Queen Bee” flats | J. Crew Gigi pants

On this site I try to always share outfits, products, reviews, etc. that are real. Admittedly I often have to use the weekend to take photos of my life, so sometimes the clothes featured weren’t actually worn that day other than to capture them with a camera. However, I can assure you they were worn at some other time as a real outfit. The photos I’m sharing today may be my realest ones yet though, because this is a true work out and a c/o jacket from a brand I actually shop! Thank you to my coworker who ran outside with me on a chilly day to capture what I wore in our office, which has a business-casual dress code. This tweed blazer is perfect for work appropriate layering during cooler weather.

I Vest I’ll Try It

SheIn belted vest

I’m always looking for a deal, so when SheIn reached out to me to see if I’d like to shop their website, I was game. In fact, a few months earlier I purchased several items from the shop in hopes of getting me through an Indian Summer. I love SheIn’s low prices and trendy styles. I was also really excited to see the site now offers free returns if you purchase the shipping insurance. I wasn’t at all nervous to order what caught my eye, knowing I could just send it back if it wasn’t the perfect fit. When I shopped the site most recently, I realized it was the perfect opportunity to get an item of clothing I’d been dying for but didn’t want to spend a ton on. This belted vest was just that item.

Bell Sleeves and White Jeans

Bell Sleeve Blouse

I couldn’t believe that this last weekend was nearly October and I was still wearing a skirt and tank top, and sweating! Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to feel the sun’s warmth and soak it up for as long as I can. (Us Chicagoans need something to hang on to come February!) But I also felt seriously out of place in summer clothes when the season switched to fall. I compromised one afternoon with these sandals, white jeans and bell sleeve blouse.

Bell Sleeve Blouse

I purchased this bell sleeve blouse from SheIn. If you’re familiar with the site you probably know the products can be hit or miss. I did a lot of research on the tops I wanted to get, which you can do by looking through Instagram photos or reading the reviews on the site. Several woman I saw on Instagram wore a bell sleeve blouse similar to this and I decided to trust it. I was excited to see that the two shoulder tops I purchased, this was the other, worked out really well if I do say so myself.

Donut You Love Ruffles?

Donut Raft

You guys, I can’t get over the fact that I now have a donut pool float. How freaking adorable is it?! I really, really wanted some kind of cute pool float since last summer, so I immediately pulled the trigger when I saw some listed on Groupon. A flamingo float was actually my first choice, but I knew my fiance wouldn’t be so excited to see that sitting in our apartment. (As I type this, the donut pool float is propped up against the wall behind me.)

Technically, I’m not even supposed to have a float in our apartment pool, but I figured I wouldn’t be breaking any rules by having it next to the water in one of my new favorite summer outfits. This shirt was on majjjjor sale at SheIn and I took a chance on ordering it despite being a little wary of the quality and fit (more on that later). It was a great surprise that it fit so well and feels so good. Light and airy and off the shoulder, perfect for the summer. I’d say the top is a “sweet” match for the donut pool float. Both are too cute!
