Treat Yo Self: Goldplaited

Goldplaited

You might have heard me mention Goldplaited a lot lately on the blog or on Instagram. And if you haven’t, well, listen up! Goldplaited is a finishing salon that marries a blowout bar and makeup lounge. The first time I went there I was a little nervous because I haven’t always had the best stylist experiences. My natural hair, which you don’t see often, is curly and coarse, and new-to-me stylists can sometimes be confused by it. Thankfully, my first experience at Goldplaited left me with an amazing blowout and wanting to go back for more! Especially when I heard they do braids.

Lucky for me, Goldplaited offers a “Prep Pass,” the option of one payment that unlocked unlimited blowouts and braids per month. Now, a Prep Pass isn’t always something I can see fitting into my budget, but you know I’m a sucker for trying a new subscription service. I also learned about the Goldplaited Prep Pass at a time when I was sick of trying to manage my own hair and not have it come out looking its best. So, I signed up to try the service once. Who knew I’d still be a part of it several months later?

I have to start by saying that one of my favorite things about Goldplaited is the decor. If I could decorate a room in a home for myself, it would look like this salon. (Now if I could also hire a stylist for my personal room later in life, too…) My second favorite part is walking out and knowing I won’t have to worry about my hair for several days. I book appointments online or over the phone and can do it as many times as I want Sunday-Friday. (That does differ depending on the pass purchased.)

I started with just blowouts with my Prep Pass, but when I saw some of the braid styles coming out of Goldplaited I had to find an excuse to try one myself. Goldplaited does something called “free braid Fridays” (free with a $20 retail purchase), and while the style is included in my Prep Pass, it’s been kind of a fun thing to treat myself to specifically on Fridays. I love rocking a new style when I’m out or one that can last me through my Saturday. I’m not exaggerating when I say that several times I’ve walked out of the salon and immediately received a compliment on my hair from a stranger on the street.

The Verdict

I have stayed a member of the Prep Pass much longer than I expected to. At first getting blowouts and braids seemed silly and too extravagant to me. And OK, while it kind of is, it’s also been a time saver and ensured I had a fresh ‘do for big events, like being a guest at a wedding, or special nights out, like the Kanye concert. I hope to continue it through the holidays, a season that will also include my bridal shower.
