Gift for the Bfs (and Bros)

Homage-Spartan-SweatshirtSparty Crewneck

My boyfriend and I have been dating for several years now and while I’ve managed to hit some gifts out of the park (he loved the one where I tied “coupons” for his favorite activities around beer handles in a six-pack), I haven’t done so well on others. Last year I thought a copper wall hanging in the shape of Michigan would be the perfect adult artwork he wanted, but didn’t realize it weighs a ton. It’s still sitting on the floor waiting for us to find a stud to nail it into.

One thing I know I can’t go wrong on is getting Steve some cool clothing from one of his favorite sports teams. He needs something “MSU” for every Saturday in the fall, and now that we’re moving into basketball season I’m sure he’s also going to be repping his alma mater as the #1 ranked NCAA team. Team apparel hasn’t just worked for my boyfriend, either. When I’m buying for my dad and brother and can’t find the right Christmas gifts for men, I usually purchase a shirt with Lebron’s likeness on it. They love it every time.

When I talk about sports apparel, I’m not talking about jerseys or the mass-produced stuff you’ll find at a supermarket. I’m talking about the businesses that started as a local shop and grew a huge fan following because their items are unique and well-designed. Instead of posting gift guides this year, I’m simply going to share two of my favorite shops for Midwest sports apparel, in case you need one more special gift for your bf (or bro), too.

Homage

Boyfriend-gift-ideas-homageJust like its name, Homage pays tribute to the past with vintage looking clothes and apparel recognizing the greats. I love its faded look and soft fabrics. For the most part Homage sells Ohio team apparel, but you can find other Midwest schools, too. I think they’re great for a preppy guy or someone looking to support their teams in a more “adult” way.

GV Art + Design

Gifts for boyfriends GV Artwork

GV Art + Design is the Cleveland apparel company. GV Artwork began as a design team (in fact, they partnered with Sherwin-Williams for an amazing mural) and now offer clothing that’s become popular not just with fans but Cleveland sports stars, too. I actually got my little brother one of the Lebron T-shirts last year and he thought it was the flyest shirt ever. (Are kids still saying “fly?”) In addition to Cleveland sports teams, GV Artwork also has Midwest schools and national apparel. Shop here if you want a unique, urban design.
